If you think you hate your boss, did you hear about Tamara Mellon (the co-founder of Jimmy Choo who left the company in 2011)?
In a simplified nutshell, Tamara Mellon filed a lawsuit against Jimmy Choo, and she alleges that Jimmy Choo is damaging her brand and preventing her from doing business.
According to British Vogue, she alleges that Jimmy Choo “set out to punish her by effectively helping themselves to an indefinite ‘extension’ of the one year non-compete provision,” after she launched her own brand. *
She also alleges that Jimmy Choo threatened to remove its business from shoe manufacturers if they worked with Mellon or any brand affiliated with her. Did they? Well, Mellon claims that factories have boycotted her new brand and she had to file for bankruptcy at the end of last year as a result. That’s all for now, but I’ll keep you updated as the case progresses.
*For those that don’t know, a non-compete is an agreement you may sign with your employer that basically says that if you ever leave that company you won’t compete with it. For example, if you’re a hairdresser, your non-compete may say that you can’t work at any salons within a 25 mile radius for the next year.
In other news…I think these earrings are the longest I’ve ever worn. Cute though, aren’t they? They caught my eye when I was going down the escalator at Nordstrom so I grabbed them in pink and this grey color. But let’s be real, this patterned midi skirt is the real star of the show. I’m generally not a fan of orange, unless it’s burnt (hook ’em), and especially not a fan of orange with blue (even though I’m marrying a Florida Gator), but this skirt just does something for me. The black and white pattern on the side is perfect to break up the colors. Let’s also take a moment to talk about this top. I love the cut-out back on this top. It’s such a fun and appropriate way to incorporate trends into your work wardrobe. These shoes are so comfy I bought them in 2 colors. I can wear them all day without even thinking about it. Sunglasses are Tory Burch and watch is Daniel Wellington. Xo, AL

Wow, what a lawsuit! That would really be something horrible to be involved in and I’m sure she has a lot of talent! I also love the colors in your outfit, they’re so bright!

Right?! To build a company from nothing into a global success and then to be basically shunned (allegedly), I can’t imagine!! and thank you! xoxo

Yikes- I’m going to have to keep up with that story, so crazy. Love this skirt on you, the pattern is super cool and love the colors. Great look!
I’d love to know more of your opinion on the lawsuit issue? I’d like to think the matter should be fairly simple to rectify but contracts and extensions can get so messy. It’s such a sad situation for Mellon, especially considering she was a co-founder of the company. Oh and love those earrings! xx Merisa | Monogrammed Magnolias
